Amazon Advertising Glossary — Metric

What is CVR on Amazon?

CVR (Conversion Rate) is the percentage of ad clicks that result in a purchase. The formula is CVR = (Orders ÷ Clicks) × 100. CVR is the strongest single input to listing strength: while CTR measures whether the ad slot wins the click, CVR measures whether the listing wins the sale once shoppers arrive. A high CVR allows higher CPCs at the same ACoS — making CVR the most leveraged variable in the Amazon advertising equation.

Formula

CVR = (Orders ÷ Clicks) × 100

Example calculation

  • Clicks: 1,500
  • Orders: 240
  • CVR = (240 ÷ 1,500) × 100 = 16%

16% is just above our 2025 portfolio-weighted average of 15.5% across 43 brands.

What is a good CVR on Amazon?

In our 2025 portfolio ($29.6M spend, 43 brands, 8 marketplaces), average CVR was 15.5%. By marketplace:

Strong

17%+

Canada (21.5%) and US (17.6%) led the dataset. Mature marketplaces with high purchase intent and shoppers who arrive ready to buy.

Healthy

12–17%

UK (15.3%), Germany (12.8%), Australia (10.7%). The "good listing in a competitive market" range.

Below benchmark

Below 10%

France (9.0%), Spain (8.0%), Italy (7.0%) — competitive markets where localization quality, pricing, and review velocity matter most.

CVR also varies by ad type. Sponsored Products often runs 2–3x the CVR of Sponsored Display, because Sponsored Products targets shoppers actively searching, while Sponsored Display reaches a mix of intent levels.

How to improve listing CVR

CVR improvement compounds: every 1-point gain reduces ACoS proportionally without spending another dollar.

1. A+ Content modules

Listings with full A+ Content (modules 1–7 populated, comparison chart present, lifestyle imagery) typically convert 8–12% higher than text-only listings. The investment is one-time; the lift is permanent.

2. Review velocity

CVR scales steeply with review count up to ~500 reviews, then plateaus. Vine, steady follow-up emails, and Amazon Customer Engagement programs are the highest-ROI CVR levers for new launches.

3. Pricing within 15% of competitors

Once a shopper compares your listing to a 4.5-star competitor priced 20% lower, CVR collapses. Watch competitor pricing weekly and adjust to stay within 15% of category median, or differentiate visibly on size, count, or quality.

4. Localized listings on EU marketplaces

France (9.0% CVR) and Spain (8.0%) often have CVR 30–50% lower than DE/UK because listings are machine-translated. Native-localized titles, bullets, and A+ Content lift CVR 20–40% in our experience.

5. Mobile-first imagery

~75% of Amazon shoppers browse on mobile. Main image must read clearly at thumbnail size, secondary images must work without zoom. Listings designed desktop-first see CVR 15–25% lower on mobile traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good Amazon conversion rate?

A good Amazon CVR depends on category and marketplace. Across our 2025 portfolio of 43 brands and $29.6M in ad spend, the weighted average was 15.5%. Mature US listings with strong reviews routinely exceed 20%; new launches in competitive categories often start at 5–8% and climb as reviews accumulate.

How is CVR different from CTR?

CTR (Click-Through Rate) measures impressions → clicks: the share of shoppers who click your ad after seeing it. CVR (Conversion Rate) measures clicks → orders: the share of shoppers who buy after clicking. CTR is creative-driven; CVR is listing-driven. Both feed into ACoS.

Why is my Amazon CVR low?

Five common causes: (1) under 50 reviews on a competitive keyword, (2) price 20%+ above category median without visible justification, (3) thin or missing A+ Content, (4) main image and detail-page imagery not optimized for mobile, (5) bidding on broad keywords too far from your actual product (driving low-intent traffic).

Does Amazon CVR include subscribe-and-save orders?

Yes. CVR in the Amazon Ads dashboard counts all orders attributed within the attribution window — both one-time purchases and subscribe-and-save first orders. Recurring subscribe-and-save deliveries do not count as new conversions; only the initial signup.

How fast can I improve CVR?

Image and copy changes show CVR impact within 7–14 days as Amazon's sales-rank-weighted algorithm picks up the new performance. A+ Content updates typically show in 14–21 days. Review-velocity gains are slower (30–90 days). The fastest single CVR lever is usually a winning main image test in Manage Your Experiments.
